Temu returns: deadlines, free shipping, and refund choices

Plan a US Temu return around your purchase date, the first-return allowance, packing instructions, and the choice between payment refunds and credit.

Check the item window before grouping your return

The standard window in Temu’s US return policy is 90 days from purchase, with exceptions. Delivery does not restart that clock. Most electronics instead have 45, 60, or 90 days from purchase, depending on the seller, so check the product’s eligibility before assuming the longest window applies.

Clothing that has been worn, washed, damaged after delivery, or had tags or hygiene stickers removed cannot be returned under the listed rules. Some personal-care items, underwear orders, free gifts, and customized products are also excluded; sellers may mark other products ineligible on their detail pages.

Groceries and food are not returnable. A separate exception lets you request a refund within 72 hours of delivery if an eligible fresh item arrives damaged or defective. That is a refund-request route, rather than permission to mail food back as an ordinary return.

Use the first return for the order carefully

Temu’s free-shipping allowance covers the first return of one or multiple eligible items from each order, within the return window. It is not a fresh free return for every item. Look over the other items in that order before sending the first parcel so you can group eligible unwanted items together.

Return situation Cost stated in the US policy
First return from an order, within the applicable window Return shipping is free; pickup may add a fee
Second or later return from the same order using Temu’s label $7.99 plus tax based on the order’s shipping address, deducted from the refund
Oversized, overweight, or remote-area return requiring self-shipping Pay shipping upfront, then contact Temu for reimbursement after receipt and quality inspection

Do not pay for your own shipping merely because the first return is described as free. Follow the return method provided for the order, and check any pickup charge before choosing it. The public policy does not give a universal pickup fee.

These are Temu’s conditions. For a purchase made through Amazon, use the separate Amazon late-return fee guide when checking that retailer’s return costs.

Start from the order and follow its assigned method

On Temu’s return-policy page, Start return opens the sign-in or registration screen. The published process then directs you to:

  1. Open the relevant purchase in Your Orders and choose Return/Refund.
  2. Select the items and reason. Provide any additional information requested, then choose Next Step.
  3. Choose the return and refund options shown for your order and submit the request.
  4. Use the issued label or code and follow the instructions for that method.

If you ordered without a Temu account, the policy directs you to Save your Order in the order email. Do not create a replacement order just to locate a return.

For a packaged return, include each item’s original barcode. If one is missing, the instructions say to put that item in its own transparent bag before packing the return. Attach the printed label when required; a method using a return code has its own drop-off instructions. Happy Returns does not require packaging. Use the carrier or location assigned by your return instructions, rather than assuming every listed network accepts your code.

Use the address on the return label, not the address printed on the parcel that arrived. Temu’s provided label is for shipping within the US and excludes security-restricted areas such as military bases.

If you need the label again, the policy lists two paths in Your Orders: All Orders → Print your return label and start return → Print return label, or Returns → Print return label.

Meet the postmark requirement as well as the item window

After you submit the return, the package must be postmarked within 14 days or the return process will end. Temu also says you cannot return items after their return window closes. Treat these as two conditions to satisfy; do not assume a last-day request gives you an automatic extension beyond the item’s window.

If the dates are close, check the deadline in your return instructions and contact support before delaying shipment. For local-warehouse items, the policy directs you to Return Details → Contact the seller. For other items, use Temu Customer Service through its support center.

Choose the refund destination before submitting

For a normal returned item, Temu processes the refund after receipt and quality inspection. Original-payment refunds can take 5–14 business days, up to 30 days, to appear, depending on the financial institution. That payment delay follows refund processing; it is not a promise measured from the day you mail the parcel.

Temu credit is faster and has no expiration date, but it normally cannot be cashed out and generally cannot be reversed once processed. Choose the original payment method if you want the money returned there rather than held for another Temu purchase. If a problem with that account or provider prevents the refund, the policy says Temu will email you and let you choose credit.

An advance or instant refund is discretionary and depends on shopping history. Temu may charge the original payment method if the required items do not come back or fail inspection. A refund issued early does not automatically mean you can keep the goods.

User-caused damage, missing parts, or inadequate return packaging can reduce the refund. Original shipping and import tax are not refunded when the return is not Temu’s or the seller’s fault; insurance fees are nonrefundable, and a signature fee is nonrefundable after successful delivery.

An iPhone has additional checks: the policy calls for new, unused, unactivated condition with original accessories and packaging, matching serial numbers, and removal of personal information. It separately addresses devices that arrived damaged or malfunctioning. Check that section before treating an opened phone as an ordinary change-of-mind return.
