Ulta return policy: 30 days for a refund, 60 for store credit
Ulta's 30-day refund and 31-60 day credit windows, the ID rule, gently used products, mail returns, gift receipts, delivery app orders, and points.
This guide follows the Returns section of Ulta Beauty’s Guest Services page as read on October 20, 2026.
How long do you have to return something to Ulta?

Products must be new or gently used, with all original components. Ulta’s page doesn’t define “gently used” further, and it says it doesn’t resell used products.
Many pages still say Ulta gives 60 days for a full refund. That was the old rule: Beauty Independent reported in November 2024 that the full-refund window dropped to 30 days on November 3, 2024, and an archived copy of Ulta’s page from June 2025 already shows the 30-day rule.
Do you need a receipt and ID to return to Ulta?
Yes. Ulta requires proof of purchase unless it can verify the purchase in its system, and “a government-issued physical ID and either a phone number or email for any returns.” It can limit returns when it suspects misuse, such as excessive returns, reselling, or fraud. Items it can’t verify aren’t eligible for a refund, exchange, or credit.

Gift receipts, within 60 days, get an exchange for something of equal or lesser value, or merchandise credit.
How do you return an Ulta.com order by mail?
You pay the return shipping, and exchanges can’t be made by mail; Ulta suggests a store return for a faster refund. Ship by ground to the Ulta.com Return Center in Bolingbrook, Illinois, ideally with tracking. Ulta processes mailed refunds within 30 business days of receiving the package, and a card refund can take another 7 to 10 days to show up.
Original shipping charges aren’t refunded. Items sold by a UB Marketplace seller can go back to an Ulta store or by mail through the online return form.

Coupons and discounts are prorated and taken out of the refund. Points you earned on a returned item come off your balance; points you spent on it go back, prorated for a partial return. You can’t return something to buy it again with a coupon or points.
What can’t you return to Ulta?
- Gift cards and single-use coupons.
- Wigs and hair extensions bought through an Ulta salon.
- Intimate wellness devices.
- Mini Brands capsules, unless unopened and sealed.
- TikTok Shop purchases in Ulta stores; return them in the TikTok app.
- Purchases from Ulta stores or sites outside the US.
For a salon service you’re unhappy with, Ulta asks you to contact the store manager within 7 days.
Does Ulta extend returns for the 2026 holidays?
