Count from the order date, even if delivery took a week

For a standard US Rack return, the current policy gives online purchases 40 days from the order date and store purchases 40 days from purchase. Delivery does not restart the online clock. These rules apply to eligible Nordstrom Rack purchases; full-line Nordstrom merchandise has separate restrictions.

Both routes require a receipt and an item that is unused, unworn, unaltered and undamaged. Keep applicable price tags, hang tags and original packaging, including shoe boxes, dust bags and eyewear cases. Final Sale and Non-Returnable items are excluded. Check the invoice, confirmation email or Purchases page for your item’s eligibility.

Beauty products must be unopened and returned in store. Car seats must remain in their original unopened box with unbroken seals. For defective car-seat products or parts, Rack directs you to the manufacturer.

The announced 2026 holiday extension

Eligible Rack purchases made October 5–December 24, 2026 can be returned by January 18, 2027, or 40 days after purchase, whichever is later. The ordinary condition and final-sale exclusions still apply. Online purchases can use an eligible store or mail route; store purchases still cannot be mailed.

For other retailers’ announcements, use the holiday return deadlines guide. Each store sets its own qualifying purchase dates.

Choose a store to avoid the mail-label charge

Eligible Rack online purchases can go to a US Nordstrom Rack or Nordstrom store for free. Rack store purchases also go back to either store brand for free. Bring the eligible item, receipt or invoice, and original payment method. Rack’s store finder can locate a nearby branch.

Mail is available for eligible online purchases only. Rack deducts $9.95 per prepaid return label used from the refund. This is a label charge, so do not assume one charge covers separately labeled packages. Original shipping charges are not refundable.

The dedicated policy repeatedly states that fee. A cancellation answer elsewhere in Rack’s FAQ still describes free mail returns; use the specific return-policy terms when deciding whether to mail.

In-store exchanges are available for eligible online and store purchases. There is no exchange option by mail. Also check the original seller: fine jewelry and designer items bought from Nordstrom or Nordstrom.com cannot be returned to Rack stores or by mail under this Rack policy.

Start an online return with your order number and ZIP code

Open Guest Returns if your purchase history is unavailable. The public form asks for Order number and ZIP Code or postal code. Your confirmation email and packing slip contain the order number. Account holders can also start from their NordstromRack.com purchases.

After locating an eligible order, follow the return instructions for the prepaid label or a QR code that prints a label at an eligible carrier location. Match the correct item to its package and label. Rack says items sent by mistake, under the wrong label, or outside its return criteria will not be refunded or sent back.

The general policy says items must be returned within the period; it does not clearly define a last-day carrier scan or label-creation deadline. Creating a label is not a stated extension. If the deadline is close, a store visit avoids waiting for return shipping.

What comes back, and when

Eligible returns generally go to the original payment method, with specific exceptions. Gift recipients return eligible online gifts to a US Nordstrom or Rack store and receive a Nordstrom Gift Card. Bring the gift receipt. Keep an original gift card even if its balance is zero, because refunds generally return to it.

The customer-service FAQ adds a route distinction for PayPal: a mailed return credits the PayPal account, while an in-store PayPal return produces a Nordstrom gift card. That can change which route you choose even when the store route is free.

For an eligible credit-card return made in store, Rack lists approximately 3–5 business days, depending on the financial institution. Its FAQ lists typical mail transit of 8–12 business days, followed by refund processing and bank posting. Those are separate stages, rather than a guaranteed total turnaround.

Older copies of Rack’s policy described 30 days for store purchases and discretionary late returns with a reduced gift-card refund. The current policy checked October 22, 2026 gives 40 days for both channels and does not publish that older late-return entitlement. If you are outside the applicable window, contact Rack through its customer-service page before sending anything; the old 50% figure is not a promise that your return will be accepted.
