Macy's holiday return policy 2026: dates, fees, and exceptions

Macy’s has posted its 2026 holiday return dates on a page of their own.

Does the holiday window give you more time?

Yes, for store purchases and most online orders. Macy’s usual window is 30 days from delivery or purchase, so even a December 31 store purchase would normally be due January 30. An online order delivered on January 2 or later would have a usual deadline after January 31, and the holiday page doesn’t say which date wins.

Last year’s window was similar. Macy’s 2025 wording covered purchases starting October 6, 2025, returnable until January 31, 2026.

What the holiday window leaves out

• Dyson and Mac Duggal: items sold by these brands keep their 30-day window.
• Last Act: final sale, sold as is, with no returns, exchanges, or price adjustments.
• Shipping and delivery fees: not refunded.
• Never returnable: food, beverages, and live plants, gourmet gifts, Macy’s gift cards, and altered or personalized items are final sale.
• Furniture and mattresses: the holiday page only links their separate policy and doesn’t say whether the extension covers them. That policy gives 3 days to request a return of furniture with scheduled delivery, 30 days for furniture shipped by UPS or a vendor, and a 120-day reselection or return period for mattresses.
• Macy’s Backstage, jewelry, and watches: Macy’s says only that extended holiday returns “may apply” to eligible purchases. Backstage purchases go back to a Backstage location, and fine jewelry and watches go through an inspection that can take up to 14 business days.

In store or by mail

Store purchases go back to a Macy’s store, and store returns are always free. Online orders can go back to a store or by mail. Mail returns are free for Star Rewards members; everyone else has a $9.99 return shipping fee, plus tax, taken out of the refund.

Free return shipping never covers lamps, wall art and mirrors, furniture and furniture accessories, beds, or area rugs. Refunds go back to the original form of payment.

Returning a gift

Macy’s lists its gift rules under registry returns. With a gift receipt or a registry number, a gift or registry item comes back as store credit. Without proof of purchase, Macy’s may still give store credit for the lowest selling price in the last 180 days (the last 90 days at Macy’s Backstage). Registry gifts can go back up to 90 days after the event, or 90 days from purchase for items bought after it.
