Burlington returns: 30 days, receipts, and store credit
See how Burlington receipt status, purchase date, PIN debit, layaway and select-store Loyalty benefits affect your refund and what to take to the store.

Your receipt and the date change the refund
Burlington’s published return policy starts with 30 days from purchase, an original receipt, and merchandise in new, unused, unwashed condition with its original packaging. A qualifying refund normally goes to the original form of payment. The same page also describes accepted late returns and returns without receipts, so passing day 30 does not describe every possible outcome.
| What you bring, and when | What the policy says you can receive if approved |
|---|---|
| Original receipt, within 30 days of purchase | Original-payment refund, subject to payment and layaway rules |
| Original receipt, after 30 days | Merchandise credit; the policy also mentions applicable service-fee deductions |
| After 60 days | Merchandise credit for the lowest selling price |
| No receipt, with an accepted photo ID | Merchandise credit for the lowest selling price |
Every return requires third-party verification and system approval. Burlington reserves the right to limit or refuse a refund. The late-return rows describe outcomes for accepted returns; they do not guarantee that an old item will be accepted. The page does not publish an absolute maximum age for an accepted late return.

“Lowest selling price” can be less than the amount you paid. With no receipt, do not plan around getting the current ticket price or a cash refund. The policy does not define a separate dollar amount for an ordinary late-return service fee, so ask the store about any proposed deduction.
If the receipt is missing, prepare ID and look for your e-receipt
Burlington lists these photo IDs for a non-receipted return: driver’s license, state-issued non-driver ID, passport or military ID. Bring the item in the required condition and be prepared for verification. Where permitted by law, ID information and return history may be collected in the processor’s system.
If you used Burlington Loyalty, check your email for an e-receipt before treating the return as receiptless. The program terms describe an e-receipt option at participating locations; completed layaways are excluded from e-receipts. The terms do not establish a universal card- or phone-number lookup procedure for every store. Ask your location what proof it can recover rather than assuming a payment card will substitute for a receipt.
Receiptless rules differ by chain. If another item in the same shopping trip came from Walmart, check Walmart’s proof and ID options separately; Burlington’s credit rules do not carry over to that purchase.
Does Loyalty give you 45 days?
Burlington’s Loyalty terms publish 45 days from purchase at select stores, subject to verification and system approval. They tell members to see an associate for details. The benefit is not a nationwide 45-day promise for every shopper.
The Loyalty overview advertises extended, receipt-free returns. Its footnote also says Burlington Card holders receive Loyalty benefits only if enrolled in the Loyalty Program; providing an email address leads to automatic enrollment for card holders. A payment card by itself is not the complete eligibility statement.
There is a practical ambiguity to resolve before a trip: the 45-day benefit does not expressly say whether an accepted return after day 30 keeps an original-payment refund, while the general policy says accepted receipted returns after 30 days receive merchandise credit. Ask your store both whether it offers the extension and what refund form applies to your purchase.
Payment type and layaway can change what you get
Burlington says debit cards used with a PIN receive cash. Do not extend that statement to every debit transaction. A purchase paid by check is credited to the original account; the usual rule for other qualifying refunds is the original form of payment.
Layaway deposits, payments and returned layaway merchandise receive merchandise credit, less applicable service fees. Returned merchandise from a completed layaway also receives merchandise credit. Bring a valid photo ID for a layaway refund.
If you are canceling an unfinished layaway, read the separate layaway terms first. Service and cancellation fees have state-specific exceptions, so a general return guide cannot give one cancellation deduction for every location.
Find the store before you carry the item over
Use Burlington’s store finder to search by US ZIP code, city or state. It also provides a state directory if the search opens without a useful local result. Use the location’s details to check where you are going, then ask an associate about a late return, missing proof, layaway, or the select-store Loyalty extension.

For a straightforward receipted return, take the original receipt, the item and its packaging. For a no-receipt attempt, add an accepted photo ID. For a late return, settle the expected credit amount and any deduction with the store before relying on the money for another purchase.
