This guide follows Target’s price match pages as read on October 20, 2026.

Does Target still price match Amazon or Walmart?

No. Target’s policy now names three sources of a lower price, all of them Target’s own: Target.com, Target stores, and a Target Circle deal. Older articles still describe a competitor match, so here is what they say next to Target’s current page.

What you may read What Target’s page says now
Target matches Amazon and Walmart. Neither is named. The lower price must be “at Target.com, in Target stores or with a Target Circle™ deal.”
Target matches a list of online competitors. That list was replaced by Amazon and Walmart in 2024, and they were dropped in 2025 (timeline below).
A screenshot of the lower price is enough. “Screenshots or pictures cannot be accepted.” Show the live price on Target.com, the Target app, or the digital ad.
The lower price can come from another Target store. Not for a store purchase: “In-store price matches from other Target stores are excluded.”
Who Target matched, from its archived help page
  1. Oct 2022 to Jul 2024 Target.com, "select online competitors," and local print ads
  2. Dec 2024 Target.com, Amazon, Walmart, and Target Circle deals
  3. Jul 25, 2025 Amazon and Walmart still listed
  4. Aug 6, 2025 Target.com, Target stores, and Target Circle deals only (key date)

Dates are Internet Archive copies of Target's help page, not announcement dates. Target posted no notice of the change that we found.

Target did not publish a reason or an exact date for the change. The two archived copies in the sources bracket it between July 25 and August 6, 2025.

How long do you have to ask?

You can ask at checkout or within 14 days after you buy. The item must be identical: same brand name, size, weight, color, quantity, and model number. Target’s pricing page says that if you find a current lower price within 14 days after purchase, you can bring the proof “and we’ll adjust your payment to the lower price, upon request.”

Target's help page: it may qualify for a price match if it's an eligible Target product bought today or in the past 14 days, identical, and lower on Target.com or at your local Target store

Example: a price drop 12 days after you buy
Bought in store, October 20
$49.99
Target.com price on November 1
$39.99
Last day to ask (14 days after October 20)
November 3
Adjustment if you ask by November 3
$10.00

The lower price has to be live when you ask. Target’s policy says the price “must be listed and valid at the time of match,” and Target may decline a price it cannot verify. A sale that ended yesterday does not count.

What won’t Target match?

Target lists these exclusions on its Price Match Guarantee page:

  • Clearance, closeout, liquidation, and refurbished items, and typographical errors.
  • A lower price at a different Target store, when you bought in a store.
  • A purchase that came with a promotional Target GiftCard, or an item that has a gift card promotion now.
  • A purchase where you are also using a registry completion coupon or another Target coupon.

The full policy excludes more:

  • Damaged, used, open-package, pre-owned, and rent-to-own items, and pre-orders.
  • Deals that need a minimum purchase, discounts on a whole store or site purchase, and non-branded items.
  • Bundled offers, free items, rebates, mail-in offers, credit card offers, gift card financing offers, sales tax promotions, and service offers.
  • Target Circle Bonuses, gift card offers, registry completion coupons, and Target coupons, which cannot be combined with a price match. Manufacturer coupons are applied after the match, on store purchases only.
  • Contract phones and their plans, optical, product services such as warranties and assembly, and clinic and pharmacy purchases.

Price matches on items sold by Target.com or on Target app prices are not available in Alaska and Hawaii. Target also reserves the right to limit quantities per guest, without giving a number.

Items bought from a Target Plus partner follow their own rule: identical item, bought from that partner today or in the past 14 days, and now lower from the same partner on Target.com. Target items cannot be price matched to Target Plus items.

How do you ask for a price match?

It depends on where you bought it.

You bought it Where to ask What to have ready
In a Target store At checkout or Guest Services; adjustments are done on any lane The current lower price on your phone (Target.com, the Target app, or the digital ad) and the original receipt, physical or digital
On Target.com or in the app Chat online or call Guest Services at 1-800-591-3869 Your order number and the item details

Target says it can also adjust Drive Up and Order Pickup orders under the same guarantee. If you use the Target app as proof, it must show the price for the store you are in. Target matches Target.com prices on store purchases and store prices on Target.com purchases.

Tips on how to get a price match: for a store purchase, ask at checkout or Guest Services, bring proof of the Target price and the original receipt; for an online purchase, chat online and have the current price, order number, and item information ready; screenshots or pictures cannot be accepted

Is there a holiday price match for 2026?

Target had not posted 2026 holiday price match terms as of October 20, 2026. In 2025, its Holiday Price Match Guarantee ran from November 1 through December 24, and Target said it would “match its own prices if they go lower later in the season.” The archived help pages show other years’ start dates: October 6 in 2022 and November 7 in 2024. Do not assume the 2025 dates repeat. For holiday return deadlines at Target and other stores, see holiday return deadlines by store.

What if the 14 days have passed?

The price match window ends 14 days after you buy, but returns follow Target’s separate return policy. If you no longer have the receipt, see how Target handles returns without a receipt.

Target’s pages do not say how many units count as its quantity limit, whether a holiday adjustment also has to fall within 14 days, or why competitor matching ended.
