Best Buy price match policy: who it matches and for how long
Which competitors Best Buy matches, how its own price drops are matched after you buy, the Thanksgiving week exclusion, and how to ask online or in a store.

This guide follows Best Buy’s Price Match Guarantee dated September 2, 2026, its competitor list dated May 11, 2025, and its return policy dated February 23, 2026.
Best Buy runs two kinds of price match, and which one you get depends on when the lower price shows up.
The lower price shows up...
- Before or while you buy, at a listed competitor Best Buy matches it at the time of sale
- After you buy, at Best Buy Matched on request during your return window
- After you buy, at a competitor Best Buy's terms do not promise a match
- Before a scheduled delivery, at Best Buy 100% of the difference, including tax, by phone
Which competitors does Best Buy match?
Best Buy lists 19 “Qualified Competitors”: Abt, Amazon, Apple, B&H Photo Video, BJ’s Wholesale Club, BrandsMart USA, Costco, Crutchfield, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Menards, Microcenter, Nebraska Furniture Mart, P.C. Richard, RC Willey, Sam’s Club, Target, and Walmart. Retailers not on the list, such as eBay or Newegg, are not matched.

The competitor’s item has to match exactly: same brand, model number, and color, new, and available right away for shipping or store pickup from the competitor. Third-party sellers do not count, on Amazon or anywhere else. Best Buy matches “the current pre-tax price available to all customers,” and leaves shipping or delivery charges out of the comparison.
Warehouse clubs on the list (BJ’s, Costco, Sam’s Club) count too. If the club’s website shows the price only after you sign in with a membership, Best Buy matches it in a store only, from the live offer, not from a screenshot.
What happens if the price drops after you buy?
If Best Buy lowers its own price during your return and exchange period, it matches the lower price when you ask. You can ask more than once in that period. The terms promise competitor matching “at the time of sale”; for the weeks after, they promise to match only Best Buy’s own lower price.

The return and exchange period is your price-drop window, and its length depends on your membership.
| Item | Standard | My Best Buy Plus or Total member |
|---|---|---|
| Most products | 15 days | 60 days |
| Phones, cellular tablets, hotspots, cellular wearables | 14 days (Verizon devices: 30) | 14 days (Verizon devices: 30) |
The period begins the day you receive the product. The longer member windows do not apply to Marketplace items.

Two timing cases have their own rule:
- Waiting for delivery: if Best Buy drops the price of an item it sold you before the scheduled delivery date, it refunds 100% of the difference, including tax. You have to call 1-888-237-8289; stores and email can’t process it.
- Store pickup: if the item is cheaper in the store or on BestBuy.com when you pick it up, you can ask for a price match then.
If the price match doesn’t work out, most items can still be returned inside the same window, though some opened products carry a restocking fee and some can’t be returned once opened. See Best Buy’s restocking fee by product.
When won’t Best Buy match a price?
Competitor prices from the Thursday before Thanksgiving through the Monday after are excluded. In 2026, by our count from the calendar, that is Thursday, November 19 through Monday, November 30. Items a competitor marks as Black Friday pricing are excluded too.

Best Buy’s terms also exclude:
- What you buy: Marketplace products, clearance, open-box, refurbished, and pre-owned items, and bundles.
- Whose price it is: prices only for members of a program, so a non-member can’t get the My Best Buy member price; Best Buy Education and Best Buy Business purchases.
- The kind of offer: contract phones, services such as delivery and installation, pre-orders, rent-to-own, liquidation, trade-in offers, daily or hourly sales, financing, coupons, mail-in offers, gift card offers, free items, pricing errors, limited-quantity or out-of-stock items, and voice-only deals.
Puerto Rico stores have their own terms, posted in those stores.
How do you ask for a price match?
| You bought it | How to ask |
|---|---|
| On BestBuy.com, in the app, or online with store pickup | Use Best Buy Chat (the purchaser has to make a chat request) or call 1-888-237-8289. Stores and email can’t handle online orders. |
| In a Best Buy store | Ask a Customer Specialist or go to the Customer Service desk, at checkout or during your return period. |
Have the ad or web page with the lower price ready, and make sure the price is still in effect. After an online order arrives or is picked up, the Order Details page has a “See details” link that shows whether a price match is available.
Is there a holiday price match in 2026?
Best Buy’s holiday FAQ says a Holiday Price Match Guarantee is “in effect throughout the holiday season” and that “if our price goes lower during the holiday season, we’ll match it.” The same FAQ, dated November 30, 2025, still showed the 2025 holiday return dates on October 20, 2026, and Best Buy had not posted 2026 holiday terms. Other stores’ holiday status is in holiday return deadlines by store.
Best Buy’s pages do not say how a price match is paid back for an in-store purchase, except for phones on an installment plan (one option is a Best Buy Gift Card for the difference), or whether My Best Buy rewards change after an adjustment.
